About the Author

Jeannette Wright’s obsession with dogs began when she was 11 months old. “The first word I spoke besides ‘Mom’ was when I pointed to the dog next door and said ‘bup’ for puppy dog.”

“When I was 12, my parents said I could have a dog. So I read all the dog breed books I could find and memorized the characteristics of the major breeds,” Jeannette says. “I picked a Samoyed, and I was in love.

“ Years later, I grew more interested in boys and realized they had a lot in common with what I loved most in life - dogs. I noticed one man I dated, happy-go-lucky David, would do whatever I asked him to do - much like a Labrador Retriever. And the next man, Chris, was as unpredictable as some Doberman Pinschers I’ve known. I never knew when he might snap at me.”

She earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Texas Tech University, and by her mid-20s had a successful career as an economist with the Texas Water Commission. But she still had not met Mr. Right. “After many unsuccessful relationships, I decided to apply what I knew about dogs to finding the man for me.”

At 27, she met the real Mr. “Wright” - Lance Wright - her future husband. “He was a Borzoi man, and I realized that we matched as perfectly as I did with the Borzoi dogs that have lived with me.” Borzois are also called Russian Wolf Hounds.

Together they spent three years in the high desert of Arizona, living in a tepee, where Jeannette honed her theory: Dogs, bred by men to reflect specific manly traits, could help women understand men. That’s where the book idea came to her.

She would use her knowledge of dogs as a way of understanding men to help other women gain insight into finding their own Mr. Right. Men Are Dogs is the result.

Jeannette and Men Are Dogs have been featured in USA Today, The Dallas Morning News and on the Today Show as well as several national radio shows. She is a sought-after speaker, and her book was recently nominated for a Benjamin Franklin Award.

Today, Jeannette manages her husband’s chiropractic practice and they live in Plano, Texas, with their two dogs. She is currently working on a screenplay, The Dog Star.
